Volunteer Receptionist Job Role
Job description

We are looking for volunteers to build up a small but valuable team to provide reception cover in the office beetween 9am and 1pm weekdays. There will be a paid member of staff supporting this role at all times. As Volunteer Receptionist you would be first point of contact for visitors to Voluntary Action Melton. Full training, a period of induction and ongoing support would be provided. In this role you would be welcome to attend internal staff meetings and other events organised by Voluntary Action Melton. There will be opportunities to develop areas of special interest eg database management for those who would like to pursue this.
Tasks would include some of the following
• Use the telephone system to transfer calls to the appropriate person
• Answer general queries from the public both in person and on telephone
• Take and pass on accurate messages by completing message slips
• Retrieve and deal with messages on the answering machine
• General clerical tasks such as typing/ photocopying/ filing/ shredding, both for internal staff and voluntary groups
• Assist with preparing and posting mailings
• Assist the Administrator with tasks as requested
• Ordering stationery
• Assist in generally keeping the office environment safe and presentable
Essential Qualities:
• Basic word processing skills and ability to use email
• Good communications skills
• Team player
• Good sense of humour

Reporting:
• To the Administrator.
