A CHANCE TO MAKE YOUR COMMUNITIES STRONGER
Voluntary Action Melton is working on a new, important and potentially financially rewarding initiative to ensure targeted communities in Melton Borough grow stronger.
Local Area Agreements are part of a 10 year strategy to encourage discussion between Local and National Government to improve quality of life and the co-ordination of public services. A number of identified Government funding streams have been brought together under the four blocks of:
1. Children & Young People
2. Healthier Communities & Older People
3. Safer & Stronger Communities
4. Economic Development
The voluntary sector in Leicestershire is taking the lead on the Stronger Communities block and here in Melton we are initially focusing on the Bottesford, Wymondham and Egerton areas.
During the year surveys have been carried out in these areas, giving residents the opportunity to record all aspects of life in their community.
Presentations are being given at various meetings in each area to discuss the outcomes of these surveys and to involve the local people in the future planning to make the communities stronger. A number of new community groups will be started, and some existing groups supported to increase the opportunites they provide. The aim is that through this more people will become involved in community activities and/or volunteering.
It is vital that residents and organisations in these areas get involved now to enable them to contribute to the future of their communities.
