CONTACT SCHEME
Contact is a scheme which enables over 30 senior citizens to meet at a different venue for afternoon tea, once a month. The event usually takes place on a Sunday afternoon at a village hall with tea and cakes provided entirely by volunteers.
Contact offers senior citizens who live in the Borough the opportunity to meet up with friends from different areas and enjoy a social occasion in each other’s company. The event is organized by a volunteer who organizes the venue, confirms who will be attending and arranges transport with Voluntary Action Melton. Our transport scheme picks people up and takes them along to the venue using our mini bus, car or our volunteer drivers’ own transport.

FITNESS FIRST FOR MELTON MEN
More Melton men are being encouraged to fight the flab by signing up for new fitness sessions.
The first of a new series of men's workout sessions, organised by Melton Council's Active Together programme along with Active Melton and Voluntary Action Melton, was recently held at The Edge Children's Centre.
The six men who attended did a number of static and dynamic exercises to music under the supervision of session leader Adam Chambers.
And now more men are being encouraged to join in and get fit.
Sessions are being held at the centre every Wednesday, 5.30pm to 6.30pm. There's no need to book, just turn up. The sessions are running for the next six weeks after which there will be a review to decide whether they will continue.
Peter Carlill, Melton Council's physical activity development officer, said: "Hopefully this will be an ongoing thing. We're looking at developing physical activity in our priority neighbourhoods.
"We decided to try these sessions on the back of Men's Health Week and so far we've had great feedback."
A one-hour sessions cost £2.

ARMY OF VOLUNTEERS ARE THANKED
A celebration event has been held to say a big thank you to the 100-plus local people who regularly give up their time to support Voluntary Action Melton's projects.
Its community initiatives include befriending, gardening, a Pyramid Project for schools and youth clubs around the town.
Spokeswoman Joanna Burrows said: "The event was organised to mark National Volunteer Week and as well as saying thank you we also opened our doors to new volunteers. We would like to thank the 28 local businesses which generously donated wonderful prizes for the volunteers."

FUN, FITNESS AND NOW IN THE FRESH AIR
A successful exercise and aerobics class which gives women an alternative to the gym has reached its first milestone.
Thirty members who attend the sessions at The Edge family centre in Dalby Road received their 12-week certificates for health and fitness participation on Monday night.
The initiative, backed by Voluntary Action Melton and Melton Active Together, has launched a second class, catering for all ages and abilities, at The Cove family centre in Sysonby Street on Thursdays from 7pm to 8pm.
And new the scheme is going outdoors, too, with Fitness in the Park starting on Wednesday and running throughout the summer by the Bandstand in New Park from 7pm to 7.45pm. The cost is £2 per session.
The sessions cover fitness walking, calorie burning, strength, tone and balance and flexibility stretches.
Dalena Christian, who will be running Fitness in the Park, said: "It's about fresh air and fun. Many of the women who have attended the indoor sessions have been motivated to improve their health in other ways such as giving up smoking and losing weight by being more active and eating better. Going to the gym isn't for everyone."
