Community Transport Scheme
USE YOUR DRIVING SKILLS TO HELP THE COMMUNITY
Volunteer Drivers from all areas of the Borough are urgently needed to join our expanding scheme helping frail, elderly and disabled people.
We’ll pay your mileage so the cost is your time.
Want to know more?
The transport scheme is a door-to-door service provided by volunteer drivers who use their own cars together with paid drivers who drive our Community Car and Lottery Limo, which is a wheelchair accessible vehicle. It serves those who live in Melton Borough.
TRANSPORT SCHEME AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WHO ARE ELDERLY OR DISABLED
If you are frail elderly or disabled and cannot use public transport, you are eligible to use the service.
We can take you to a number of places including health appointments (hospital, doctor, health centre, dentist, chiropodist and clinics) lunch clubs, visits, day centres and daytime courses. This is all arranged by our Volunteer Transport Department on 01664 482903. Office hours are Monday to Friday 9.00am to 1.00pm.
You have to contact us at least 2 working days before travel. We will then do our best to arrange the journey.
Please note that we cannot guarantee that a volunteer will be available so please give us as much notice as possible (up to a month in advance). If you will be bringing an escort with you, you must inform the office when booking.
There is a charge based on the mileage that helps toward the drivers fuel expenses. We ask the passenger to put the required amount into an envelope and hand it to the driver at the end of the journey.
If you have a bus pass or concessionary vouchers issued by Leicestershire County Council they can be used.
Contact the Volunteer Transport Department on 01664 482903. Office hours are Monday to Friday 9.00am to 1.00pm.
