We can help you get there.

If you find it hard or are unable to catch a bus and don't have access to a car, any journey can be far from easy. But help is at hand - from your local social car scheme.

Social cars schemes are run by local voluntary organisations and supported by Leicestershire County Council. Volunteer drivers offer a door to door transport service giving you the ability to get out in comfort and at an affordable cost.

Can I use this service?

The scheme is a transport service provided by volunteer drivers who use their own cars. It serves those who live in Melton Borough.

If you are frail, elderly or disabled and cannot use public transport or where none exists, you are eligible to use this service

Wecan take you to a number of places including health appointments (hospital, doctor, health cantre, dentiist, chiropodist) lunch clubs, visits and daytime courses.

This is all arranged by our Volunteer Transport Department. Contact Angie Butcher, Volunteer Transport Department on 01664 482903. Office hours are Monday to Friday 9.00am to 1.00pm.

How do I book a journey?

You have to contact us at least 2 working days before the date of whenyou want to travel. We will then do out best to arrange the Journey.

Please note that we cannot guarantee that a volunteer will be available so please give us as much notice as possible.

How much will it cost?

There is a charge based on the mileage that helps toward the drivers fuel expenses. We ask the passenger to put the required amount into an envelope and hand it to the driver at the end of the journey.

If you have a bus pass or concessionary vouchers issued by Leicestershire County Council they can be used.

Services for people who have difficulty using public transport

If you are frail elderly or disabled and cannot use public transport, you are eligible to use the service.

We can take you to a number of places including health appointments (hospital, doctor, health centre, dentist, chiropodist and clinics) lunch clubs, social visits, day centres and daytime courses. This is all arranged by our Volunteer Transport Department on 01664 482903. Office hours are Monday to Friday 9.00am to 1.00pm.

Please note that we cannot guarantee that a volunteer will be available so please give us as much notice as possible (up to a month in advance). If you will be bringing an escort with you, you must inform the office when booking.
